Objectives:

The idea behind this meeting originated with the observation that there are few opportunities for people who study machine and biological hearing to interact - we tend to attend separate meetings, and publish in separate journals. Yet there is much to be gained through interactions. Biological hearing systems provide the best example of competence in most perceptual problems of interest, and should provide clues to their solution if experiments target the right problems. Machine hearing must by necessity focus on the computational issues that make perceptual problems difficult; biological hearing should arguably try to gain insight into how biological systems deal with these same issues. Our goal is to bring together people in both communities to stimulate interaction.
