Mac OS X tips and tricks
Just a few tips and tricks for unix types on Mac OS X
tunnelling via ssh
So this took me ages, and caused me a lot of pain. If you want to use
ssh tunnelling (e.g. with tinyproxy) on Mac OS X (tiger / leopard at least),
you'll need to run
ssh -CL port1:127.0.0.1:port2 remoteserver
as opposed to the usual
ssh -CL port1:localhost:port2 remoteserver
which somehow gets mapped to something else (I read something about IpV6
compliance...?). Very annoying. However, after replacing this, I was able to
happily run a tinyproxy server on my work computer, tunnel in and access the
ip-restricted websited I needed to (like journals etc.).
